Not really into self-help books, but I enjoyed this one a lot 👍

3。5 rounded up for me。。。I think lol? Important to reiterate that this is a collection of advice columns because even though I knew that, I struggled to sit down and read it for long periods of time。 Strayed is an EXCELLENT writer, and the advice columns selected for this collection span a whole range of human emotions。 Some I adored, some I disagreed with Sugar's responses, but in reading the submissions and Sugar's responses, I was able to greater understand my fellow humans on a base level。 We 3。5 rounded up for me。。。I think lol? So beautifully written! I really admire how this book normalizes all sorts of experiences us humans go through。 :)

One of my favorite modern day authors。 Cheryl Strayed always manages to touch on every possible human emotion through her powerful, albeit heartbreaking, words。 I always appreciate her genuine, no BS approach when it comes to exploring the many truths of life。

Really great writing from both submissions and advice given。

I loved everything-EVERYTHING-about this book。

I really enjoyed reading the Dear Sugar letters and responses! The advice Sugar gives is incredible and how she can bring her own life experiences and stories into that advice is amazing! My only wish for this book is that we get some closure or updates on some of the letters! I’m desperate to know what happened to some after they received a response from Sugar!

Easy to read and full of insight。 Kept my attention to whole time。 Likes how she shares about her life and what happened to her dad。 Highly recommend it!

I have no idea how I came across this book。 I am sure I saw it recommended but unsure where。 Though I was familiar with the author, I have not read anything by her。 This book was published in 2012 and I was not familiar with the advice column。 Some of the questions and stories, once again, remind me that what you know about others is what they choose to present。 Also, things can be bad/sad/upsetting but there are many others that would trade for your issues and problems in a minute。 3 1/2 stars

I didn't get very far on this one。 Her "advice" was her being self-important。 There's no way I could bare through that for hundreds of pages。 I didn't get very far on this one。 Her "advice" was her being self-important。 There's no way I could bare through that for hundreds of pages。 。。。more

My all-time favorite book。 This one's a security blanket and a warm cup of tea for me。 Love Cheryl's writing and even when I can't relate to the story, I'm still so drawn My all-time favorite book。 This one's a security blanket and a warm cup of tea for me。 Love Cheryl's writing and even when I can't relate to the story, I'm still so drawn 。。。more

This book is difficult to rate。 On one hand, the advice she gives in her columns is wonderful and thought provoking。 There are many that will definitely stay with me。 On the other hand, some of the columns I found myself skimming through as I got further into the book because I wasn’t that interested in the letter written。 I would highly recommend this book to everyone but I also think it’s not for everyone。

Alona

I never read “gossip/advice” columns。 I gave this book a go only because it’s a Reese’s November book club pick。

Just as good as I remembered it

3。5 rounded up to 4。 Overall this is a fun read full of nuggets of wisdom。 I'm not a fan of the crude language in parts of it, it detracts from the beautiful quality of the wisdom the author imparts but that's just a personal preference on my part。 Some readers may also internally cringe at the authors use of "sweet pea" "honey bun" when imparting responses to the writers of the letters she responds to。 Overall the book grabbed my attention and I learned from it。 3。5 rounded up to 4。 Overall this is a fun read full of nuggets of wisdom。 I'm not a fan of the crude language in parts of it, it detracts from the beautiful quality of the wisdom the author imparts but that's just a personal preference on my part。 Some readers may also internally cringe at the authors use of "sweet pea" "honey bun" when imparting responses to the writers of the letters she responds to。 Overall the book grabbed my attention and I learned from it。 。。。more

I love Cheryl Strayed。 I devoured "Wild" almost a decade ago。 I listen to her podcast with Steve Almond regularly。 I’d read many of these columns where they originally appeared on The Rumpus。Still, somehow, this book exceeded my expectations。 It’s brave and beautiful and exactly what I needed to read in this moment。 It reminded me just how powerful good writing can be。 I borrowed it from the library, but I’m going to buy a copy so it can live on my shelf, and I’m going to treasure it。 I love Cheryl Strayed。 I devoured "Wild" almost a decade ago。 I listen to her podcast with Steve Almond regularly。 I’d read many of these columns where they originally appeared on The Rumpus。Still, somehow, this book exceeded my expectations。 It’s brave and beautiful and exactly what I needed to read in this moment。 It reminded me just how powerful good writing can be。 I borrowed it from the library, but I’m going to buy a copy so it can live on my shelf, and I’m going to treasure it。 。。。more

This book was wonderful and funny and emotional and perfect! I didn't read every story but rather flipped through them all and read the ones that came to me and it was lovely, this book brought me to tears。 It takes a very special kind of person to be kind and stern and give advice that both provides a consolation and a wake up to the next stage of becoming。 Inspirational and beautiful <3 This book was wonderful and funny and emotional and perfect! I really enjoyed this book。 Someone who did an advice thing on some website。 The letters in are well written, her responses have so much heart and at times are poetic。 I laughed and cried several times - I don't do that often reading。 lots of good snipits and different way of saying things that we've all dealt with。 I really enjoyed this book。 Someone who did an advice thing on some website。 The letters in are well written, her responses have so much heart and at times are poetic。 I laughed and cried several times - I don't do that often reading。 lots of good snipits and different way of saying things that we've all dealt with。 。。。more

Absolutely beautiful novel!!! Eye opening to hear others struggles and the beautiful responses from the author herself! Heartwarming!

What can I say … I want to be Sugar。 Her truth and non judgmental wisdom … her fierce unconditional love。 Her commitment to forgiveness and being true to yourself! Not all advise she gives I agree with completely but the heart and place she comes from I can not help but love in every way!

Michele

Interesting, practical, down-to-earth advice by a lovely writer。

Cammy

A book about advice to people’s submitted letter to Dear Sugar。 Some are thoughtful and insightful。 Others are funny。 Be thankful for the life you have!

Aleksandra

supercute

This collection of advice columns responses was pretty solid。 I enjoyed hearing someone’s perspective on a lot of common issues we have。 Although I got to thinking what made this person’s perspective more valuable than someone else’s? Great writer

Kathy

I do think this book is wonderful, raw and thought provoking。 BUT the word tiny makes it sound light and it is anything but light。 This book is heavy, and sometimes hard to read。 I had to read a second book while reading it as an escape。 Cheryle share ms very deep parts of herself and the letters are very deep and sometimes dark times for the advice seekers。 I think if you go into the book knowing this, your experience may be different than mine。

Emily

The most human of human books。

I feel she wrote too much about her life when giving advice and less about actual advise。
